Flamenco originates from Andalucia, Southern Spain. Its fierce rhythms, intense sound and beautiful dance movements have conquered the world. In "Aires Flamencos" students of renowned flamenco dancer, choreographer and instructor, Juana Cala, bring the spirit of Andalucia to Drom. The group consists of flamenco aficionados who have studied this intricate and passionate art under Cala's direction for a few years and are eager to bring their love and passion to the stage for the world to see. Juana Cala’, Dancer/Choreographer has been performing and teaching Flamenco in the United States and Europe for more than 20 years. She performed as a soloist in the Maria Benitez Dance Company under the direction of Mario Maya, and then went on to form her own company, “Ensemble Flamenco Juana Cala”, touring some of Europe’s most prestigious theatres for 16 years, with much critic acclaim. Juana has had the opportunity to work closely with acclaimed Flamenco artists such as; Antonio Canales, Javier Baron, El Junco, Alfredo Lagos, to name a few. Alma Cien Magazine once cited her as “One of the most noteworthy female ‘Non Spain born’ flamenco dancers in the world.” She has been a resident Spanish Dance Professor in various universities across the United States and currently teaches classes and performs in NYC and Tri-State area.
